Virginia "Pepper" Potts was originally in the secretarial pool at Stark Industries. She is promoted to Tony Stark's personal assistant after fixing an accounting mistake made by Stark himself. She is never addressed to as Virginia, but only by her nickname. At times she is virtually the only real friend he has at the company.

When Tony believes he going to die of the palladium in the reactor, he promotes Pepper to CEO of Stark Industries. Once Tony finds a cure, however, she resigns. In The Avengers she has become his lover and partner.
